Freezer Temperature Still Applies Here

Frigidaire’s ice makers need the same roughly 0°F freezer environment any ice maker needs to cycle properly, and it’s worth confirming actual temperature with an independent thermometer rather than trusting the unit’s own display, which can drift several degrees off over time without anyone noticing.

From experience, the smarter move when a Frigidaire unit seems to be cycling but just isn’t producing much ice, rather than not working at all, is to check for airflow blockage before suspecting a mechanical failure. On models that use an auger to move finished ice rather than an ejector arm, a failing auger motor usually announces itself with a grinding or straining sound before it fails completely, which is a useful early warning if you catch it. Complete silence during a harvest cycle, once you’ve ruled out the water supply and the bail arm or paddle, points more toward this motor or the control board than anywhere else.

Ice fused solid inside the mold is a related but separate symptom, usually meaning the unit stalled mid-cycle rather than the motor having failed outright. Clear it by hand and run a manual cycle if the model supports one, watching whether the auger completes a full rotation without straining.

What Most People Don’t Know

It doesn’t make noise. There’s no error light on most models.
